Lockner Lunch - this Sunday!

Hello Neighbours!

A final reminder so you don't miss out on all the fun at the Big Lockner Lunch this Sunday, 25th July between 2-5pm at the Red park between Wareham and Stratton Court.

We have held an annual Big Lunch on Lockner every summer since 2009, and they have grown bigger and better each time. After missing out last summer and spending a miserable winter locked in, we are hoping that this year's lunch will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the community that we have here on Lockner in the sunshine with friends and neighbours. Of course, please be aware of distancing and guidelines - although the event is relatively low risk being outdoors and the government has lifted restrictions, we are amidst an "exit wave" and need to be mindful of this. There will be hand sanitising stations and we'd ask that food sharing is kept to your bubble/minimum.

This year there will be plenty of entertainment and opportunities for everyone to enjoy. Alongside the Big Lunch we will be hosting a "Mini Lunch" in a quieter area for Lockners little ones and their families.

  • Pantonic - Hackney's community steel Orchestra will welcome you to the party with sweet sounds created by traditional steel pan instruments playing music from all around the world to warm us up.

  • Topsie Redfern, our very own drag cabaret performer will be hosting a Drag Queen storytime in the Mini's area, as well as performing her Internationally renowned Cabaret sets in the grown up area.

  • The London Ambulance Service will be celebrating our lifesaving community with us as we unveil the Lockner Community Defibrillator - the first open access community defibrillator on an estate in the UK. Norman and his colleagues will be providing free lifesaving training throughout the day.

  • Dr Oblong will be setting up a Bike Clinic and be on hand to make any needed bicycle repairs or maintenance to keep us all moving in the months to come.

  • Professional facepainting and temporary tattoos will be on hand for anyone wanting to decorate their body.

  • Our children can bounce and play under the watchful eye of Bouncy Castle Bouncer Tony and his team on soft play and bouncy castles.

  • Impact Football Academy will be running football drills, workshops and games to get feet moving and blood pumping for anyone wanting to brush up on their football skills or simply keep the Euro 2021 alive in their souls.

  • And last but not least, Lorenzo will be cooking us all up hundreds of kilos of his famous jerk chicken to enjoy.

We’ll be acting as a collection point for the E5 Baby Bank at the event, there will be a crate in the green playground to put items in. The Baby Bank distributes essential baby and child items to local families in need, their wishlist is here. If you have any of the things on the list still hiding in the cupboard and still in good used condition, please donate them, it makes a huge difference to neighbours who may have very little.

Please bring with you a dish to share with your bubble, perhaps a cushion or chair to sit on and a plate to eat from, or just bring yourself and a smile.

If you have the energy and would like to meet neighbours setting up please come along to the Red park from 12pm to join our set up crew and hang hundreds of meters of bunting!
